Capitol Hill is the heartbeat of Seattle because of its perseverance. But the neighborhood is changing fast, and as more local staples close their doors, we believe it’s time for total transparency: The Red Chair Salon is fighting the best way we know how. We have navigated a long season of hard testing. The combination of profound loss, recent theft, and the shifting landscape of the Hill has pushed us to our limit. At this crossroads, you either give up or go all in.

We refuse to let hardship define us.  Instead, we are leaning into the community that built us.

Seventeen years ago—March 18th, 2009—we started with our dog Sidney and three red chairs from the original Cinerama. If we are to remain a fixture here, we’re going to open our doors so wide that if the hinges come off, so be it. We are going "all in" on you with our boldest initiative yet: The Community Chair

The short version? Pay What You Can.

Self-care shouldn't be a luxury reserved for your "best" months. We’re talking to you: healthcare workers, bartenders, cooks, and waitstaff. To the Lyft drivers, those working two gigs, the people between jobs, and those just barely hanging on. If we’re going to take a stand, we’re taking it with you.

How it Works

• The Community Chair: Starting Tuesday, Aprill 7th, 2026

• When: Tuesdays and Thursdays (12:00 PM – 4:00 PM)

• The Deal: We offer "Pay What You Can" appointments. No explanations needed. No questions asked. This seat is for you!

• The "Lift Up" Option: If you can give back, you can add a "Lift Up" donation to your service. 100% of these funds cover the cost of a neighbor in the Community Chair.

Services & Minimum Pricing (If you can pay more, name your price):

• Bang Trim: Starts at $10

• Buzz Cut: Starts at $15

• Clipper Cut: Starts at $25

• Short Cut: Starts at $35

• Long Cut: Starts at $45

• All-Over Color (no bleach): Starts at $65

This initiative in no way impacts our staff. We pay competitively and offer health benefits; this program provides our staff with more hours—in which case, everyone wins. The Community Chair is available for new bookings made on or after April 1st, 2026.
